“The problem with the Internet start-up craze isn’t that too many people are starting companies; it’s that too many people aren’t sticking with it.”  Steve Jobs

Internet Start-UpNow that you have decided to open a business, your company is looking to enter the Internet Start-up phase. An Internet Start-up ranges from something like Facebook, Groupon, or Craigslist, to Wikipedia and ShoeDazzle. Before you delve into the Internet world, you should answer these 4 questions first:

#1-The Why: Why is being on the Internet going to help your business grow? What is your business model? What are your company’s goals, values, and mission?

#2-The Who: Who do you want to attract? Who is your target audience?

#3-The What: What is it that you want to convey to your target audience? Specifically, what content needs to be included to highlight or sell your product or service? Do you need an ecommerce application, a video application, or an email service?

#4-The How Much: And of course, how much money do you realistically want to spend for an Internet Start-up?

Being honest and realistic with these questions will allow you to understand why you want to market, what you want to market, who you want to market to, and how you are going to market? It’s important to answer these simple questions on marketing and strategy before you’re sitting at the other end of the table with a web development company. Clearly understanding and articulating your business model will work wonders in securing a successful and profitable web presence.
